What’s your excuse?
If you’ve been wanting to get from point A to point B, it’s probably because the journey will bring some discomfort. For example, if you want to quit your job to start your own business, but you haven’t yet, there’s probably something holding you back. It could be a fear of running out of money, of not having “what it takes” to be a successful entrepreneur, or of having to set your own work schedule.Either way, if it were comfortable to get to point B, you would have already been there, because we like doing comfortable things. To get to point B, you’ll have to move through some discomfort. But are you acknowledging this fact? Or are you covering it up by coming up with elaborate excuses for why now is not the moment to start moving into the discomfort? One way you might try to avoid discomfort is by overthinking and by planning excessively. If you want to start your own business, you can tell yourself, year after year, that you’ll save just a bit more money. So you never quit your job to start that business, because you tell yourself that doing so will be easier when you have more money. There might be a grain of truth to that, but in all likelihood there is a bigger problem going on: you’re coming up with excuses not to have to face the discomfort. So, what’s your excuse?Yours,— Peter
