PSA: limiting how much time you spend on your phone

October 12, 2018

I use my phone more often than I'd like.

I pick up my phone often and it usually distracts me from whatever else I was doing, whether that's work or enjoying the company of others. I don't like that I use my phone so often, but checking for notifications and browsing social media are addictive. (This isn't news, obviously.)

To use your phone less, I highly recommend the new feature that limits your daily time on certain apps or types of apps. On iOS, this feature is called Screen Time. On Android, it's called Digital Wellbeing.

For example, I limit myself to eight minutes of Twitter and five minutes of Instagram a day. It's annoying to run up to the limits, but that's the point.

There's no shame in using technology to help yourself break bad habits.

Yours,

— Peter
