Do you need to?
Or do you want to?
If you're always telling yourself and others that you need to do things, you're disempowering yourself.
You need to go to work.
You need to visit your parents.
You need to head out (because you're meeting a friend soon).
Why not use your language more precisely by acknowledging that you want to?
You want to go to work.
You want to visit your parents.
You want to head out (because you're meeting a friend soon).
"But wait," you might think, "I don't want these things!"
Investigate more closely. Maybe you do want these things; it's just that they have an opportunity cost. Or maybe you really don't want these things, in which case... why are you still doing them?
Yours,
— Peter
